Alwynne Pritchard
Alwynne Pritchard has been appointed BIT20’s new artistic director with effect from January 2016. She is a composer, performer and curator. She studied composition at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama and at the Royal Academy of Music in London.
In 2003 she completed her PhD in composition at the University of Bristol. Pritchard has worked with leading musicians and ensembles across the globe. In her recent work, she has increasingly explored relationships between musical expressions and the human body and has appeared as an actor, vocalist and physical performer in a number of stage productions, as well as developing choreography for performances of her own pieces.
In 2015 she founded the music theatre company Neither Nor with Thorolf Thuestad. To date, they have created Homing and Korpus for Borealis, a festival for experimental music in Bergen, and a staging of Heiner Müller’s Hamlet Machine with the French company Scènes Théâtre Cinéma.
Pritchard taught composition at Trinity College of Music in London from 2001 to 2008 and was artistic director of Borealis from 2008 to 2014. This is her first season as artistic director of BIT20.
