Knut Vaage & Ingela Øien

  • Cornerteateret, Kongesalen 4 Kong Christian Frederiks Plass Bergen Norway (map)

Mythical creatures and volcanic video art

In this concert dedicated to Ingela Øien the flute is set within an electronic frame. Volcanic video art, a collage of trombone recordings and a boom blaster are some keywords for the concert.

A mutual admiration and common passion for contemporary music has lead the flutist and the composer to collaborate on several occasions throughout their careers.

As a celebration of Øien’s 40 years as a flutist in BFO Vaage wrote the piece “Janus”. This was performed in Grieghallen the autumn of 2022.

Still inspired by the mythic world the composer has written a new piece to Øien titled “Medusa”. The monstrous Medusa is known from the Greek mythology as the dangerous woman that transformed anyone looking at her into stone with her snake hair. This will be performed at the concert as well as selected works from the composer’s catalogue.

Knut Vaage is a Norwegian composer and performer of improvisation and contemporary music. He is especially fascinated by where conservative forms and modern aesthetics meets. Sentral in his work is the exploration of the borderline between free improvisation and composition.

The concert program as well as selected pieces from Vaage’s catalogue will be released on the record label LAWO in 2023.
Tapt slag, Medusa and Elektra II are written to and performed by Ingela Øien.
