WHEN THE 82-YEAR-OLD composer and legendary improviser Vinko Globokar worked with us in 2013, a week of intense, demanding and physically challenging rehearsals resulted in a performance of his specially commissioned Kaleidoskop im Nebel that still resonates in the memories of musicians and audience alike.
Since then, we have been looking for an opportunity to collaborate with him again and are thrilled to be performing the piece a second time at the Arena Festival in Riga. Latvia’s leading festival for contemporary music, it also has close links to our two Latvian members, violist Liene Klava and cellist Agnese Rugevica.
At this concert Globokar will conduct his own work. In addition, we will premiere specially commissioned works by three Latvian composers, Santa Bušs, Gundega Šmite and Andris Dzenîtis.
