A glimpse into the future: Young composers on the rise

19:00–19:30: Intermission & conversation led by Peter Meanwell – artistic director of Borealis, Foajé
19:30–21:00: Konsert BIT20 Ensemble (inkl. pause), Peer Gynt-salen
Promoting and playing work by young composers is important to BIT20. This year, Bergen is hosting Ung Nordisk Musikk (UNM), a festival dedicated to new music exclusively by composers under the age of 30. BIT20 join forces with BFUng – the youth orchestra of the Bergen Philharmonic – presenting to the audience an evening guaranteed to bring about new musical acquaintances. BIT20 enters the stage with four very different pieces spanning fortepiano, stylophone and accordeon as key instruments. Chaya Czernowin is also in town to conduct masterclasses, and what better timing than to play a piece by her as well.
Joining in this evening to widen our perspective is Peter Meanwell – artistic director of Borealis. He will moderate a conversation addressing the challenge of creating new space where young composers and musicians can experiment together. In other words, this is the place to be if you are interested in what the future Nordic music scene might look like.
