Fana Kulturhus: Erlend Apneseth Trio & BIT20 Ensemble

  • BIT20 Ensemble Grieghallen Bergen Norway (map)

Folk music, new music and improvisation

Terra Incognita is the latest of several collaborations between Hardanger fiddle innovator Erlend Apneseth and composer Ørjan Matre. Both artists work at the intersection of innovation and tradition. In an evolving process of artistic exchange, they have arrived in undiscovered territory.

Terra Incognita will premiere at the festival Ultima where Erlend Apneseth Trio will perform with BIT20 Ensemble for the first time. The day after the world premiere the piece will head to the west coast where it will be performed at Fana Kulturhus.

Drawing on archival recordings of Norwegian folk music, including the religious song ‘Alt forvandles skal til støv’ (All things shall turn to dust), Terra Incognita is a space for new discoveries and possibilities, where modern composition meets folk music and improvisations.

Apneseth’s inventive trio combines the sounds of Norwegian folk music, jazz and electronica.
