BIT20 Ensemble in Iceland

The ensemble BIT20 is probably the most mischievous child in Nordic contemporary music. Since the ensemble was founded in Bergen in 1989 to stir up the atmosphere for new music, they have diligently commissioned and premiered new music by both world-renowned and unknown composers, Norwegian and foreign, and worked with many heavyweights in the industry. Now they are making a splash in Kópavogur and performing at State of the Art, with Bjarni Frímann at the helm.

Bjarni was born the same year as BIT20 and is their recently appointed artistic director. Since he took over, the ensemble has won one victory after another, full houses in public and full houses with critics. On stage, young musicians and seasoned veterans who have climbed over fences since 1989 face each other.

At State of the Art, BIT20 offers a packed table of Nordic contemporary music that ranges from sharp pling-plong music to the unexpected. There will be a punk premiere. An Icelandic extravaganza. Will Atli Heimir be there? And of course, pieces that the band commissioned and have immortalized. And sometimes it's best not to have many words before the concert.
